El Cajon Sprinklers arranges drip irrigation repair in El Cajon and East County through local irrigation contractors. Drip fails quietly. A zone can run on schedule every day while half its emitters are blocked, chewed through or popped off, and the first sign is a shrub that browns in the middle of a bed that looks watered.
Most drip repairs fall in the $100 to $400 range; a bed of established shrubs lost to a zone that ran dry for a summer costs far more to replant, and so does the $300 to $1,200 it takes to redo a zone that was never maintained.
$100 to $400 for most drip repairs
Drip repairs in El Cajon typically fall within the general sprinkler repair range of $100 to $400 (HomeGuide, February 2026), with labor at $50 to $100 an hour. Splicing chewed tubing and replacing emitters is quick; a clogged filter, a failed regulator or a zone that needs rerouting takes longer.

- One plant browning in a bed of healthy ones
- A puddle or small fountain at a fitting when the zone runs
- White crust on emitters or around the base of plants
- Tubing pulled out of a fitting, or chewed with ragged holes
- The zone sounds right at the valve but plants at the far end stay dry
- A filter screen packed with grit
The three things that go wrong
Gophers and digging
Gophers and rabbits chew drip tubing for the water, more so in the dry months. Tubing on the surface under mulch shows the damage where it can be found; buried tubing leaks unseen. A repair is a coupling and a few minutes per break, but a bed with dozens of bites usually needs a new run.
Scale and grit
Helix water averages about 12.5 grains of hardness per gallon. Mineral scale builds up in emitter outlets and in filter screens, and grit from a nearby pipe repair can flush into a zone and block emitters downstream. The fix is cleaning or replacing the filter, flushing the lines through the end caps, and replacing emitters that will not clear.
Pressure
Drip runs at low pressure through a regulator. A failed regulator lets full line pressure into the tubing, which blows fittings apart; a blocked one starves the zone. Either shows up as a whole zone acting oddly at once.
Repair or rebuild a drip zone
A drip zone with scattered damage is a repair. A zone where tubing has gone brittle in the sun, emitters are a mix of three generations, and plants have moved or grown is usually better rebuilt as a planned layout, especially for trees whose emitters still sit at the trunk instead of out at the drip line. See drip installation for what a new zone involves.

Call (619) 361-7869Checking a zone yourself
- Run the zone and walk it end to end while it runs
- Look for wet spots that are too big (a leak) and plants with no wet spot (a blocked emitter)
- Open the end cap for a few seconds to flush grit
- Unscrew the filter bowl and rinse the screen
- Note anything you cannot fix, and mention it when you call
Drip in the communities around El Cajon
Drip carries most of the landscape in the drought-tolerant front yards of La Mesa, Casa de Oro and Mount Helix, and on the rocky slopes toward Alpine. In Poway, where landscape watering runs between 6 p.m. and 10 a.m., a long drip program has to fit that window unless the city's published exceptions cover it.
Plants dying on a zone that runs?
That is almost always a drip problem, and almost always fixable. Call and describe which plants and where the zone starts.

How much does drip irrigation repair cost in El Cajon?
Most repairs fall in the $100 to $400 range, with labor at $50 to $100 an hour. Splices and emitters are quick; regulators, filters and rerouting take longer.
Why are my drip emitters clogging?
Usually mineral scale from hard water or grit flushed in after a pipe repair. A clean filter and a flush through the end caps clear most of it.
What are the signs of a drip system leak?
An oversized wet spot, a small fountain at a fitting, a soggy patch in an otherwise dry bed, or a zone whose far end never gets water.
Can gophers damage drip lines?
Yes, especially in dry months. Surface tubing under mulch makes the damage easy to find and splice.
Should I repair or replace an old drip zone?
Repair scattered damage. Rebuild a zone with brittle tubing, mixed emitters and plants that have outgrown their layout.

Tell us which zone is acting up
Say what you are seeing (a geyser, a dry patch, a zone that will not shut off, a timer that went blank) and roughly how big the yard is. You will hear what the fix usually involves and what it tends to cost before anyone comes out.
